Day 1 Questions (Aug 22)
The "BIG IDEAS" are the overarching concepts that permeate AP Biology. As we progress through the course, you should contemplate how the topics fit within, and across these big ideas.

2nd Six Week Test - Wednesday, October 31 (Will cover osmosis/diffusion, cell cycle, cell signaling, organelles, membrane structure/function, ATP/ADP cycle, and cellular respiration)
Mendelian Genetics Unit (Covers Chapters 10, 11, and 12 in Biology in Focus)
First Semester Final will be a full released AP Biology exam. We will take about 3 class periods to take the exam (Dec 5-7). Then we will spend the remainder of the semester going through correcting and annotating the test. I want the students to have the experience of a full AP exam well before the test administration in May.

The "BIG IDEAS" are the overarching concepts that permeate AP Biology. As we progress through the course, you should contemplate how the topics fit within, and across these big ideas.
- Big Idea 1: The process of evolution explains the diversity and unity of life.
- Big Idea 2: Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce, and to maintain dynamic homeostasis.
- Big Idea 3: Living systems store, retrieve, transmit, and respond to information essential to life processes.
- Big Idea 4: Biological systems interact, and those systems and their interactions possess complex properties.
Day 2 Questions (Aug 23)
The Chemistry of Life Notes - Day 3 (Aug 24) - (Ch 2 and 3 in textbook)
- We'll be going over Ch 3 on Monday. Try to read both chapters before class on Monday. Chapter 1 can be read when you have time.
- Board notes 8/24 pict 1 pict 2
- Some examples of Isomers of glucose
- 8/29 - students broke into groups of 2 or 3 and randomly chose one of the 7 functional groups or the word monomer or polymer. Students were tasked with becoming the "expert" on their functional group and will present their findings to the class on 8/30. All students will be responsible for knowing/understanding ALL of these 9 items.
- 8/30 - group presentations over functional groups
- Macromolecules presentation
- Bozeman video over biological molecules
- Bozeman video about Water
- TEST over Chemistry of Life middle to end of NEXT WEEK. I'm thinking Thurs., Sept. 6th. Will let you know if that changes.
- Enzyme Lab due Monday, 9/17
- Chapter 4 Reading Guide
- Chapter 5 Reading Guide
- Chapter 9 Reading Guide
- Chapter 16 Reading Guide
- Notes (updated 9/16)
- The Cell - Membrane structure and function notes
